Haha, I know what sideburns are! I'm not saying that people shouldn't do it, I'm just saying it looks a bit weird to me. I did see a Suicide Girl yesterday with hair starting at her bangs and blending into chops, with the rest of her head shaved. I thought that looked a bit better than a random patch of fluff by your ears. Anyway, just my opinion.

ooh, sorry! I was taking your comments too literally, lol.

I agree that the random fluff does look kind of strange. I had a chelsea about 4 years ago (which is the exactly the style that you described on the SG), and it was a lot of fun to rock, so I understand the attachment to chops. :) punk, however, is known as being the antithesis of "good taste", so I think that's where a lot of the influence comes from.
